We found a derelict ship in the Void, the Rylothian Freedom – an old Xanter long range exploration craft. It appeared mostly intact, though it was tumbling wildly through the nebula. A little flying and tractor work stabilized it enough that we could dock.
It was a tragic sight, such a gallant old ship, open to space. It was mostly empty, just a few corpses from a skeleton crew. While the tech team worked to restore power, Kaladak and eye headed to the bridge. An analysis revealed that one of the engines had blown, and telemetry data indicated abnormal power consumption from the back-up power system.
A little work with RH8-A and the Waltz’s sensors, and we were able to isolate the problem – a once huge nest of mynocks, now reduced to a few stragglers. We quickly detached the Waltz, and then went EVA to deal with the pests. It took a little work to get to them, but they were easy to clear out. The energy parasites eliminated, we finished powering up the ship and headed to Blemish. I think she might be a significant asset to our operations – I could see retrofitting her as a salvage ship or medical frigate…I should talk to Draeks and Fr’keen, see what resources we can muster.
On another front, Banol is becoming a problem. He has no operational discipline, and chatters incessantly. I’m inclined to put him on a transport to anywhere…maybe Kaladak can whip up a mindwiping drug? I just don’t see how he fits into our unit structure – he seems to be some sort of charlatan or conman, and I can’t help but feel we are his marks…and that is too much a risk. Still, he is a decent mechanic and has proven useful in tight situations…I won’t space him just yet….
