Fuse leaned in a bit to explain.

“All explosions work the same. From the smallest child’s sparkler to the largest of military ordnance.”

Fuse loved gesticulating while he launched into one of his ill-timed speeches. Some found it distracting, others found it hypnotizing.

He continued, “They all work the same. You create a chemical or atomic reaction, which produces energy. The rapid release of energy is what we see as an explosion.”

It wasn’t out of place for Fuse to adopt a pedantic tone, but as he said this his tone communicated a sense of amazement, as though he still didn’t quite believe the simplicity of it all. By this point Fuse wasn’t leaning in anymore.

“You see, many people think that bombs are destructive,” he said matter-of-factly, “but the science is actually clear: They are productive, these reactions are producing energy. It’s just so happens that they produce more energy than the buildings or ships they come in contact with were meant to withstand.”

“Correspondingly, anything that can create an energetic reaction can be thought of as a bomb or explosion. As a matter of fact you could say that my life has been a series of explosions. Rapid releases of energy.”

Whether it was the threat of the frag grenade that Fuse had been juggling about while talking, or the threat of an unending soliloquy the low-level Imperial officer eventually relented and gave the band of rebels the information they wanted.

Fuse never did get to finish his theory of how his life has been a series of explosions.

THE FIRST EXPLOSION: Youth and Education

Skyric Terrdine grew up in among the most supportive and health environments you can imagine. Supportive friends and family provided the perfect social environment for him to excel at school and sports. While Alderaan, his home planet, provided the perfect atmosphere to develop. A perfect balance between nature and humankind. He was raised outside of Crevasse City by a wealthy, connected family; but would eventually attend the famed University of Alderaan to study science and engineering, hoping to add to Alderaan’s storied reputation for academics. His strong upbringing gave him the tools to succeed and excel in class and the university much fast than his peers.

The central conceit of the University of Alderaan was that students could not learn without going out in the galaxy and experiencing that which they were studying. This was a blessing for many Alderaanian students, like Skyric, who as a result, was off-planet when the Empire savagely destroyed Alderaan. Skyric was devastated—at the time he was in the Corellian Sector studying the physics of hyperdrive reactions at Corellian Engineering Corporation. After the destruction of Alderaan Skyric quickly developed a unhealthy penchant for Corellian Whiskey, and would spend much of his time wallowing in anger and petty defeatism. It didn’t take long for him to seek out quiet pockets of rebellion in the sector. Mostly these were meetings and information sharing sessions. Skyric did what he could to share his story and build support for the Rebellion, but he ever felt like he was doing enough. Here he developed a small reputation for being short-tempered, and strong-headed. He clearly wanted to do more to avenge his home planet’s destruction.

It didn’t take long for him to learn that there was an organized group of privateers from Corellia that had joined the Rebellion in the far reaches of space. He felt that this was his opportunity to do something more … tangible… for the rebellion. So he gained passage to the Lepskin sector, with instructions to meet with a Bothan named Draeks Im’lya. He had been looking to shore up the ranks in his small rebel group. Fuse also learned of a fellow Alderaanian in the Lepskin Sector who had been helping the rebellion as well.

“The Empire has created a lot of repressed energy during its reign. I’m hoping that I can help, in some small way, to create a reaction that will help it explode across the galaxy.”
